At our school we offer a range of experiences in which children create, make and do. We offer design technology experiences, Robotics, Minecraft Education, Reading Eggs and Mathletics, to name a few of the digital technologies. These activities compliment our curriculum or are embedded within our curriculum.
The Australian Curriculum: Technologies describes 2 distinct but related subjects:
Design and Technologies, in which students use design thinking and technologies to generate and produce designed solutions for authentic needs and opportunities.
Digital Technologies, in which students use computational thinking and information systems to define, design and implement digital solutions.
We also have the opportunity to use Minecraft Education to teach the children about Traditional Stories and story-telling as part of our curriculum. We use 3-D paint to create characters, we make a setting in Minecraft and then 'cut' out the structure block to upload into Indigital schools software, we record some of the story using a voice changer, and then we create a QR code for it. We love learning how to write stories like this.
We also provide robotics experiences with Ev3 LEGO robotics, SPIKE prime, Wedo and Beebots. Just because we are out west doesn't mean that we are not in touch with 21st century learning! We LOVED the Sumo Challenge!
