Children in selected Queensland communities can attend a face-to-face State Delivered Kindergarten program at their local state school.

State Delivered Kindergarten programs ensure all children have access to a kindergarten program in the year before school, no matter where they live.

Eligibility

State Delivered Kindergarten is offered in schools located at least 40 kilometres by road from the nearest approved kindergarten, in a selected, discrete Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community or other selected communities where there have been barriers to accessing kindergarten.

To participate in an approved State Delivered Kindergarten, your child must turn 4 by 30 June in the year they attend. If your child is eligible, contact Bollon State School to commence the kindergarten registration.

Children participating in state-delivered kindy must be four years of age by 30 June of the year they are to attend kindy. The age eligibility for a child's participation in a kindy program is specificied in Section 419A of the Education General Provisions Act 2006. The play-based kindergarten program is comprised of 15 hours a week for 40 weeks or 600 hours per year. The Kindergarten curriculum and learning possibilities create inclusive learning opportunities as it links to the Australian Curriculum.

Delivery

State Delivered Kindergartens provide kindergarten programs that are delivered by, or have access to, an early childhood teacher in composite and non-composite settings. In composite or multi-age classes, kindergarten is provided in schools where children from 2 or more year levels are in the same class. In non-composite settings, the kindergarten delivery is a straight year level, i.e. kindergarten-age only. Both models are designed to meet the local school and kindergarten context.

State Delivered Kindergarten is delivered in accordance with the Queensland kindergarten learning guidelines (QKLG) which provides guidance for planning, interacting with children, monitoring and assessing, and sharing information in kindergarten contexts across Queensland. The QKLG aligns with Belonging, Being and Becoming - The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia.
