P–6 Curriculum Planning Model

At our school s​tudents participate in an annual Public Speaking event held at the surrounding small schools. During the English curriculum learning, students research online and in books, they publish their work on the computer and present their work to the class and to audiences from the community. Children have the opportunity to work with a local Aboriginal Elder to learn about Traditional Stories which is part of our unit. Students perform poetry on stage during our Awards night as a culminating activity for the poetry unit which is part of the following list of units. 

These units are a 3 year cycle of topics

Examining and creating fantasy texts.

  • Exploring a text.
  • Retelling a narrative from another point of view.
  • Examining persuasion in advertisements and product packaging.
  • ​Examining Traditional stories.
  • ​Expressing a preference/ expressing an opinion/expressing a point of view.
  • Exploring informative texts.
  • Examining media texts.
  • Exploring narrative through ​novels and film.
  • Reading, writing and performing poetry.
  • Examining ​humour in poetry.
  • Exploring recounts set in the past​.

The P–6 Curriculum Planning Model for English is based on a 3 year A/B/C cycle of C2C English units. Each cycle consists of 4 units that have been chosen to ensure a range and balance of text types and assessment types across the year. Each unit contains assessment alignment planners and assessment tasks for each year level.​
